Samtrafiken works with its owners and other carriers who are associated with Resplus within the following areas:
Planning
The backbone of our operations is coordination of traffic planning so that connection times among our owners’ train, bus and boat trips is sufficiently long and the walking distance short. Cooperation within the Resplus framework involves:
• Coordinated changes in timetables
• Uniform rules for deviations in traffic during major holidays
• Coordination of planning and a common time frame for delivery of timetable proposals
• Agreed-upon connection points and minimum transfer times for connections.
Information
Samtrafiken enables the traveller, through a conversation, timetable or internet search, to get comprehensive, impartial and accurate information about the whole trip, including connections.
Current information from Resplus companies about timetables and other advertising information is delivered to Samtrafiken and stored in the Swedish National Database along with connection times. The traveller receives the information through such channels as ticket sales outlets, travel planners such as ResRobot or from our timetables.
Tickets - Resplus
Through Resplus it is possible to book, pay for and obtain a ticket for the entire trip, including connections.
Samtrafiken makes sure that the rules within Resplus are consistent with regard to age limits, discounts, luggage and other factors.
Resplus tickets are readily available throughout the country. Travellers can purchase them at the places where they are accustomed to purchasing their train tickets. Altogether there are several hundred sales outlets throughout Sweden. Read more about Resplus.
Stations
Samtrafiken coordinates and provides collective expertise in station issues within the framework of the Stations Committee’s activities.
As part of our Station Coordination, we also operate the Stationsinfo website, where maps and information are available for about 100 railway stations as well as bus, boat and airport terminals.
The Stations Committee consists of representatives from the Swedish Public Transport Association, the Swedish Bus and Coach Federation and the Association of Swedish Train Operating Companies. It has the following assignments:
• To coordinate on behalf of Samtrafiken’s owners the need for station services for joint stations so that access is assured from the standpoint of travellers and operators, both short-term and long-term.
• To see that the coordinated ordering of station services is delivered with high quality and at the lowest possible costs.
The Station Committee’s activities shall be characterised by competent and businesslike ordering and shall contribute to creating public spaces in the joint stations that are designed and made accessible in a way that contributes to an increase in public transport’s share of total travel.
Accessibility
Public transport shall serve all travellers, and Samtrafiken shall represent the industry through a broad perspective on disability issues.
The goal is to ensure that the needs of all disabled travellers are met from the trip’s start to finish so that public transport serves everyone.
Some of the ways in which this collaboration occurs are:
• Consistent level of training for our owners
• Establishment of an ”experience bank” of good examples, best practice – stations, vehicles
• Developing common guidelines for procurement
• Inventory models for plans for the disabled
Trip security is important, especially for disabled travellers.
Common reception training, common guidelines for purchasing as well as vehicles that look as similar as possible, promote a sense of security among travellers so that more disabled can easily use public transport.
Traffic interruptions
The Resplus ticket has an ”arrival guarantee”, which means that the traveller is guaranteed to arrive at the trip’s final destination even in the case of traffic interruptions such as delays.
All companies within Resplus assume joint responsibility for solving any problems that arise because of broken connections – that is, when connecting transport does not wait for delayed traffic.
We set rules for the carriers’ customer service and division of responsibility in case of traffic interruptions that apply to travel with Resplus tickets.
Samtrafiken also handles coordination issues within Traffic Management Coordination and administers a system, TLS, that facilitates coordination among the carriers. ”The purpose of TLS is to further reduce the number of broken connections, to reduce costs for substitute transport and to improve the capacity of train and bus personnel to provide quick and reliable information to passengers.
