Operations

On trips that involve multiple carriers and travel modes, a great number of factors have to come together for the trip to go smoothly and for the traveller to feel a sense of security during the trip.

It should be easy to find information about the trip and purchase a ticket in a single place. Walking distance and connection times should be accommodated, ticket regulations and conditions of travel should be uniform for the whole trip and, if something goes awry, the traveller should be well cared for regardless of the trip segment on which the problem arises.

To ensure that all links in the travel chain mesh, there is Resplus, the hub for cooperation between Samtrafiken and its owners companies and for interaction among those owner companies. Resplus integrates about 3,000 places in Sweden with a common ticketing system and uniform rules. It enables the traveller to obtain information about the entire trip, including connections in a single place, to book the entire trip on a single ticket and to buy the ticket at the place where he or she is accustomed to buying train tickets. Resplus currently has sales of more than a billion kronor and on average sells more than 330,000 Resplus trips each month, an upward trend that is steadily advancing.

Resplus offers advantages for both travellers and Samtrafiken’s owner companies:

Increased travel …

Voluntary cooperation among carriers simplifies travel on trips that combine multiple carriers and modes of travel. This contributes towards realising Samtrafiken’s goal of increasing travel on public transport by welding the links of Swedish public transport into a strong chain.

… that produces better business for owner companies

Good business is based on an attractive offer for travellers, an offer that in turn requires cooperation that takes into account the different circumstances and interests of the various participants.
Cooperation creates the basis for a positive spiral; more accessible public transport contributes toward increased travel and creates confidence in the individual companies at the same time that it creates economic parameters for additional improvements in service to the public.
The guiding principle within Samtrafiken is to always focus on the individual traveller’s needs, to be impartial in the handling of travel alternatives and to promote the mutual well-being of all the parties involved.
